Family Sponsorship Requirements

If you are interested in family sponsorship, you need to make sure that you are eligible to sponsor your relatives. In order to qualify for sponsoring, you must be a permanent resident or a citizen of Canada. Then, you need to list down the relatives you wish to sponsor. It is also important to complete the application thoroughly, keeping your facts and information true.

Canadian permanent resident or citizen

Family sponsorship is an immigration option whereby a person pledges to provide financial support for a Canadian permanent resident or citizen. In order to become a sponsor, a person must meet certain requirements. For example, the sponsor must have a sufficient income to sponsor the person, and the sponsored person must not be receiving government assistance. Sponsors are required to sign a sponsorship agreement and must be willing to repay government social assistance. These agreements are not cancellable.

A sponsoring spouse must be legally married in order to apply for sponsorship. This means that the marriage must be recognized under Canadian and local law. Marriages recognized abroad may not be recognized in Canada. A good example is if a person is married to more than one partner in another country. However, there are some exceptions. It is generally best to consult with your lawyer to find out what the requirements are.

Sponsors must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents to be eligible to sponsor their spouse or child. They must meet certain requirements, including being at least 18 years of age and demonstrating financial support for their spouse or child.

Quebec's immigration sponsorship requirements

If you are a Quebec resident and plan to sponsor a family member, you must meet certain requirements. These requirements are similar to Federal Family Sponsorship requirements. After you have met the qualifications to sponsor a family member, you must submit your sponsorship application to the Case Processing Center. You must also provide certain documents and provide a financial guarantee.

As a sponsor, you must fulfill your responsibilities to both the sponsored person and to the Quebec government. This includes providing basic needs to your sponsored relative, including food, clothing, and personal necessities. The duration of your responsibility depends on your relationship with your sponsored relative. Additionally, you will need to enter into a contract with the Quebec government under which you will reimburse the government for special allowances and financial assistance. Depending on the circumstances, you may also have to cover significant housing costs for your sponsored family member.

If your family sponsorship is approved, you must provide proof that you plan to stay in Quebec for a period of time. The minimum time required is ten years from the day the sponsored child becomes a permanent resident, but the requirements vary slightly depending on whether you are a Quebec resident. If you sponsor a child, you must submit police certificates from the country of origin. The child must also be under the age of 18 and financially dependent.

Criteria for applying

To become a sponsor, a person must meet certain criteria. First, a person must have a sufficient income or assets to sponsor an immigrant. This income or assets must be at least 125% of the federal poverty level. Sponsors must also be willing to support the basic needs of the primary immigrant and any dependent children, spouses or children of that immigrant. Sponsors who are actively serving in the armed forces in their country must also meet additional criteria.

Children in the sponsored person's home must be under the age of 22 years. If the children are older, the children must be dependent on their parents. A court order or written agreement showing that the sponsor does not have the custody or responsibility of the child can help prove this. In addition, the child must have a medical examination.

Applicants must also have a conjugal partner or a common-law partner. A common-law partner must have lived with the sponsor for 12 months in the country of the sponsor. If the sponsored person is a common-law partner or a spouse, they must also have lived in Canada for at least a year.

Requirements for sponsoring a relative

If you plan on sponsoring a relative for immigrant status, there are specific requirements you must meet. The sponsor must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident and have a job in the United States. Similarly, if you intend to sponsor a relative working for a company owned by a family member, the sponsor must have a job. The sponsor must also be at least 18 years old and have a permanent or temporary residence in the United States. In addition, he or she must have a household income of at least 125 percent of the Federal poverty level, or 100 percent if they are an active duty military member.

You cannot sponsor a relative who is receiving government assistance. In addition, you cannot sponsor a relative who has immigrated to Canada less than five or three years ago. Furthermore, you cannot sponsor a relative who is married to your spouse or common-law partner. If your relative is married, the marriage must be valid in Canada or be legally recognized by the court
