(a) Registered Companies:
As on 31st October, 2021, the total number of companies registered in India was 22,48,969.
Out of the 22,48,969 registered companies:
• 14,29,166 were active companies,
• 7,80,105 companies were closed,
• 2,315 companies were assigned dormant status as per Section 455 of the Companies Act, 2013,
• 6,997 were under liquidation, and
• 30,386 companies were in the process of being struck-off.
(b) Active Companies:
As on 31st October, 2021, the total number of active companies in India was 14,29,166.
Out of the 14,29,166 active companies:
• 14,19,887 were limited by shares,
• 8,972 were limited by guarantee, and
• 307 were unlimited companies.
Out of the 14,19,887 companies limited by shares:
• 67,228 were public limited companies, and
• 13,52,659 were private limited companies.
Among the private limited companies, 42,186 were one person companies (OPCs).
Among the public limited companies, 6,759 were listed companies.
(c) Closed Companies:
As on 31st October, 2021, the total number of closed companies in India was 7,80,105.
Out of the 7,80,105 closed companies:
• 11,131 companies were liquidated/dissolved,
• 719,800 companies were declared defunct (and hence struck-off after issuance of notice u/s 248),
• 28,087 companies were amalgamated/ merged with other companies,
• 16,211 companies were converted to Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), and
• 4,876 were converted to LLP and dissolved.
(d) One Person Companies (OPCs):
As of 31st October, 2021, a total number of 42,186 One Person Companies (OPCs) were registered in India with a collective authorized capital of INR 1,403.49 crores.
Economic activity-wise classification of OPCs registered up to 31st October, 2021 shows that most of the OPCs were in Business Services (20,842), Manufacturing (5,503), Community, Personal & Social Services (5,312), and Trading (5,119).
During October 2021, a total number of 966 OPCs were registered with a collective authorized capital of INR 41.72 crore.
(e) State-wise Active Companies:
As on 31st October, 2021, the total number of active companies in India was 14,29,166.

In October, 2021, a total of 16,083 new companies were registered with collective authorised capital of INR 2,147.52 crores. Out of 16,083 new companies, 15,981 companies were registered as companies limited by shares and 102 companies were registered as companies limited by guarantees.
