Canada reopens Border to Fully Vaccinated Tourists from the US

Now that the COVID pandemic situation is easing, Canada is allowing U.S. citizens to visit and also accepting permanent residents coming from the U.S from August 9th. Along with it, Canada will also be easing restrictions on travelers and will be canceling hotel quarantining for all the travelers visiting the country.

All the fully vaccinated travelers from all the countries who want to visit Canada will be allowed from 7th September as the borders will reopen. The travelers will also not have to go through the on-arrival Covid testing as well as the eighth-day testing; however, they may be subjected to some random testing at the border.

Only travelers who are fully vaccinated with the recommended dosage of vaccine approved by the Canadian government will be allowed under these new travel guidelines. The date of the final injection must be at least 14 days prior to entering Canada. The travelers from all the countries are welcomed to the country and the origin of their vaccines does not matter.

However, currently, Canada is approving travelers who are vaccinated by the vaccines provided by these manufacturers - Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, and Janssen (Johnson and Johnson). If your vaccination result is printed in any other language than English and French then you will have to provide the border officials with a certified translation.

The 14-day quarantine plan is still required for the people traveling to the country and before arriving, it is mandatory for everyone to submit their documents on the ArriveCan application or website. These new measures will come into effect in Canada from August 9, 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time.

It was also announced by the Canadian government officials that all direct flights to India will remain banned for the time.

Measures for Unvaccinated Children

Children under the age of 12 who are not eligible for vaccination will have to follow social distancing measures and other public health measures for 14 days upon their arrival. Right now there is no specific list of dos and don’ts mentioned for kids but each province will be releasing it soon.

Testing Requirements

From 9th August, the citizens and permanent residents of Canada who are traveling to the United States for less than 72 hours will have to go through a pre-entry arrival test at the Canadian airport. This means that they will not have to take another test once they reach the US.

Travelers who have recovered from the infection but are still testing positive will be required to show their test results taken between 14 to 180 days prior to the date of travel. Travelers who are fully vaccinated will not be required to do the post-arrival test unless they are selected for random testing at the airport.

Proof of Vaccination

Starting from August 9th, the travelers will have to submit all their documents including the proof of vaccination through ArriveCAN before boarding. Those who fail to do so will not be allowed to board the flight. You can show the physical copy of your receipt or have it on your mobile phone.

Travelers are also suggested to carry the receipt by ArriveCAN so that they can show it at the border. Non-essential travelers will only be allowed to enter the country from 9th August if they are fully vaccinated. However, it is mandatory for them to be completely US citizens.

Eased Quarantine Based on Vaccination Status

Travelers who couldn't be fully vaccinated for some medical or health-related reasons will also be allowed to enter the country with some important measures and a modified quarantine period.

With these new travel guidelines, Canada has eased restrictions on travelers coming from the United States and now individuals can enjoy seamless travel and boarding with just a few safety precautions.
