Section 47 of ESI Act 1948: When Person Eligible for Sickness Benefit

Section 47 (When person eligible for sickness benefit) under the Chapter V (Benefits) of the Employees’ State Insurance Act 1948

❝A person shall be qualified to claim sickness benefit during any benefit period, if during the corresponding contribution period, weekly contribution in respect of him were payable for not less than two-thirds of the number of weeks during which he shall be deemed to have been available for employment within the meaning of section 48, subject to a minimum of twelve contributions:

 Provided that the Corporation may waive the minimum number of contributions during the first contribution period.❞


Section 47 was OMITTED by the Employees’ State Insurance (Amendment) Act, 1966 (44 of 1966), s. 20 (w.e.f. 28-1-1968)
