Section 1, Carriage By Road Act 2007: Short Title, Extent & Commencement

Section 1 of the Carriage by Road Act, 2007: Short title, extent and commencement, reads as follows—


(1) This Act may be called the Carriage by Road Act, 2007.


(2) It extends to the whole of India, except the State of Jammu and Kashmir.


(3) It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.







Extra Notes for Readers



(1) The Carriage by Road Act, 2007 received the assent of the President of India on 29th September, 2007 and was published by the Ministry of Law and Justice (Legislative Department) on 1st October, 2007 in the Gazette of India (Extraordinary, Part II, Sec. 1).

(2) The Carriage by Road Act, 2007 came into force w.e.f. 20th July 2010, vide notification No. S.O. 1738(E), dated 15th August, 2010, see Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, sec. 3(ii).



(3) 'Preamble' part of the Carriage by Road Act, 2007 - "An Act to provide for the regulation of common carriers, limiting their liability and declaration of value of goods delivered to them to determine their liability for loss of, or damage to, such goods occasioned by the negligence or criminal acts of themselves, their servants or agents and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto".
