Section 2, Foreigners Act 1946: Definitions

The contents of Section 2 of the Foreigners Act, 1946 (Act No. 31 of 1946), is reproduced as under:—

“In this Act—

(a) "foreigner" means a person who is not a citizen of India;
(b) "prescribed" means prescribed by orders made under this Act;
(c) "specified" means specified by direction of a prescribed authority.”

Extra Notes for Readers

(1) Clause (a) of section 2 was substituted by Act 11 of 1957 (w.e.f. 19-Jan-1957).

(2) Clause (aa) of section 2 which was initially inserted by the A.O. 1950, later got omitted by Act 3 of 1951, s. 3 and the Sch.
