Labour Identification Number (LIN) - Know Your LIN

LIN Stands for Labour Identification Number.

Presently, employers have taken separate registrations with different labour enforcement agencies viz. EPFO, ESIC, DGMS, CLC(C), etc in order to comply with labor laws as applicable on them.

 EPFO - Employees Provident Fund Organisation
 ESIC - Employees State Insurance Corporation
 DGMS - Directorate General of Mines Safety
 CLC(C) - Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) organization

Introduction of "One Unit One Identifier"

Govt of India has come out with a new system of "One Unit One Identifier" so as to replace all separate registrations into only one registration by an employer.

Ministry of Labour & Employment has launched a new portal for this i.e. shramsuvidha.gov.in.

iii) simplified formats of compliance in single harmonized forms;
iv) ease in submission of CLC and DGMS annual return;
v) common return for monthly EPFO/ESIC returns;
vi) filing of single harmonized annual return by the employers;
vii) speedy redressal of grievances of employees;
viii) transparency in inspections i.e. online reporting of harmonized inspection report by inspecting officials.

Know Your LIN

1) Each establishment will be allotted a Unique Labour Identification Number (Shram Pehchan Sankhya).

2) Check your LIN at Shram Suvidha portal.

3) Existing establishments who are registered with EPFO or ESIC do not need to register separately for allotment of LIN.

From the data existing at EPFO or ESIC for an establishment, LIN would have been created. In case an establishment has not received the Login credentials, they may contact their regional Unified Web Portal (UWP) head.

4) In case, an unit/establishment has already been allotted a LIN, they can verify the information associated with LIN at the shram suvidha portal and update it, if needed.

5) For employers, who do not have any existing registrations, they can register at shram suvidha portal for allotment of LIN.
